“God loves us. He wants us to share that love with others. The vehicle to do that is friendship.”
— Eduardo Bonnin
If you think you have heard this lately, you are correct. I have been saying it a lot lately. And one more thing: I am going to keep saying it. So there. You have been forewarned.
So what is causing this obsession? I’d like to explore that with you.
Our entire Cursillo movement was founded on this thought. Eduardo was inspired by the Holy Spirit to change his environment in Spain. The Spirit wanted Eduardo to spread this message of God’s love in the unique form of Cursillo.
Cursillistas became the conduit to show others the Truth, Beauty, and Goodness of God’s love—and how He wants His children involved with this mission. My gosh! Each of us has been called by the Holy Spirit to participate in this mission!
We are each of us Ethan Hunts, being sent to save the world from destruction. (For those of you who have been greatly deprived, Ethan Hunt is the main character in all the Mission Impossible movies.) Tongue in cheek though this reference is, the analogy is still accurate.
Eduardo gave us the first part of the mission. He inferred the second part. The second part is that we are to be formed through friendship into His intentional disciples in order to change our world for Jesus Christ.
We gather in friendship as Cursillistas for many reasons. We gather because we so enjoy and love our brothers and sisters. We gather to strengthen each other in our own individual journeys. We gather to be inspired by each other. And two other key reasons: we gather to grow closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus, and then to go out and evangelize our world for Him—to save it from destruction. Just like Mission Impossible and Ethan Hunt.
(Mission Impossible 8 coming to you May 23… I’m just saying…)
